Generator start battery question

Mike, perhaps you had some nav gear or other 12V systems left on all night ?
.
Hi Bart, no the generator start battery is completely separate from the service batteries. In any case I am very careful about leaving 12V systems on overnight at anchor and I always check that the ammeter reading on the services battery circuit is at minimum before going to bed

Yes I will get the engineer to check the generator battery circuit

Deleted User. This is infesting as I established over the winter that the genset was not putting the volts back that it took to start when oil cold. The genset is stand alone with seperate 12v battery no charger other than alternator
I noticed that after a two hour under load run the volts when stopped were 0.5v+ less than at start
That is indeed interesting mjf. We ran the gennie for many hours yesterday and if the gennie alternator was not putting back in as many amps as required this could explain it but on the other hand we have used the gennie a lot over the 3 seasons without any starting issues. It does sound like a separate smart charger would be worth getting though.

Mike, as Henry says, it could just be that the 12v battery is collapsing, but well worth getting the sparky to check out the charging circuits. On my Azi, the mains charger appears to charge the genset, but the engines are 12v, so easier to achieve.

Yep P, easier if the voltage is the same, but still tricky.
Assuming that your charger already has two separate lines dedicated to the domestic and engine banks, does it have a 3rd one for the genset battery...?
