Generator costs

Hi there,
I’ve just bought a 2010 Prestige 42s and wanting to get a generator fitted. Does anybody recommend anyone in the northwest/Cumbria, also a rough idea of price.

It's going to depend on what generator and size that you want, I would estimate that professional installation with all miscellaneous items (exhaust, intake, seacocks, etc) will be in the £2.5K to £3K range then add the cost of a generator. Generator options start around £5K-£6K for a 4KW 3000rpm unit and go up from there. 1500rpm units are more expensive but tend to be quieter have longer life expectancy.

There were fatalities on Windermere a couple of years ago due to carbon monoxide poisoning by a poorly installed generator on a boat, and (I think) no working carbon monoxide (CO) alarm so do get it done properly and check the alarm regularly.

Probably about right. I've just had a quote from Toby at Keto for a 4.5KVA unit to be fitted to my similar size boat. About £8.3k all in excluding lift and block off costs. This was on the R Hamble so likely a bit more than the NW.

Which generator was that?

Paguro 4SY or Fischer Panda 4000i, only a few quid in it. Just pulled the quotes, it's actually 8k. not 8.3 so that's an extra 300 in the drinking tokens pot. Prices inc VAT.

That's probably the same two generators I would look at if I decide to add a genny next year, there seems to be positive and negative reviews about both companies so I'm not sure there's much in it. I'd probably go with whichever one is quietest.
