gelves, seville. dredging

fyi...Gelves marina is currently undergoing dredging operations and is not accepting new visitors.

we know this as we motored the 50nm up the river only to find the entrance barred! the marina is still operational and you can anchor in the river. there was no notice posted at any of the marinas en-route west of Chipiona.
the marina told us that operations were due to continue till mid/end november, but they weren't really sure.

Go and stay at the Club Nautico. Brilliant place and well worth the aggro of getting the bridge opened.

4 swimming pools, umpteen tenis courts, hot and cold running flunkys; all a mile or so from the centre of town.

Gelves

Always silts and has to be dredged every spring for people to get out.

When I had my boat lifted there in January 2002 there was 2' of mud on top of the keel wings.

They close off the marina, whilst Paco dredges the basin, usually in February.

We find that talking on the telephone before making the journey often helps!

In Gekves you can get moored on the river dock (there are some boats there now).
