Gelshielding

I am taking delivery of a new boat next month. Should I gelshield it right away or leave it a year to make sure the gelcoat has fully cured?

The boat will be afloat all year apart from a 6 week layup in the spring

Two major schools of thought:

Leave it until after the hull warrantee has expired - you're covered anyway.
Do it immediately on the basis that sealing the sponge before it takes in water is a good idea.

We went for the later option, using VCTar2 rather than Gelshield.
