Gelcoat won't cure properly if exposed to the air and remains tacky, so wax-in-styrene is added to make it into flowcoat. What if some wally forgot to add the wax? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

How deep does the "tackiness" go? Is it possible to abrade it to a hard cured surface?

(And as an aside: if the item is kept in an oxygen-free atmosphere would that have the same effect, in terms of curing, as adding wax?)

I think you are talking acetone and removal of the gelcoat then redoing it unfortunatly but someone may know a better solution hopefully.

You can put cling film over it to keep the air out and it should then harden . If its two pack and you forgot the hardener then it dries eventually but its no good and needs sanding off ..

Thanks James - the PVA spray trick is good to know (doesn't the operator make a mess though!)

How's Bideford these days? - I was a cabinet maker there for a few years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
