I am having some problems with a repair on my 2001 sea Ray. The guy repairing it is saying that it will never be totally perfect and blemish free, however my surveyor is saying that any repair should be invisible if done correctly.

Without going into detail, if the repair cannot be completed without a trace then a claim for loss of value will be made against the persons responsible for damage. I would much rather have my boat in its pre-incident condition.

Some of you must have experience of repairs so would welcome your thoughts and also any recommendations of good people to speak to.

Many thanks

In my pre-DIY days, I had a speaker removed from the cockpit, and a socket for the cockpit handset of the new DSC VHF fitted. This left 4 holes where the speaker was secured.

I suggested fitting a piece over the 4 holes, but Al, (the electrician), said he would gelcoat the whole area and, if I still wanted a piece fitting after he'd finished, he would do it for nothing.

There is no way you can tell that any kind of repair has been done.

Both the SeaRays we have owned have needed gelcoat repairs over the years (filling holes when old kit is removed/new kit is added and scratches etc) and Marina Marbella have always done a great job or got Osmotec to do it if it is a really tricky repair. Between them they have always got invisible repairs and perfect gelcoat colour matches.

Both are based in MDL Hable Point.
