gearbox oil

do any of you know what sort of oil i would need for my gm detroit v8 gearbox please.

dony know which type of gearbox yet. will make enquiries hoping to sail her wed morning.

Sorry ... I cannot guess ... would suspect Allison's, but can not tell you oil type / viscosity without having it confirmed..

So ... is engine repaired, or do we have a one engine journey??

Good on you ... tie the other shaft down please and try to keep her at 1200 RPM!!! you do not want those turbos to kick in if you can avoid it..

Safe journey... trust that you have changed fuel filters and carry spares !!!

If you are not near the boat at the moment, do you have access to the specification sheet from the purchase of the vessel?

If not, try ringing the broker as he may have one, get it faxed or emailed.

Then contact Divemaster for advice.

OK ... if Allison M20's, they'll be WT 40 ... so same spec as engine oil ... single grade WT 40 ... DO NOT ATTEMPT MULTI GRADE !!!

Engines do require single grade oil, as does the Allison's... with multi-grade, you'll probably head for an engine seizure sooner rather than later... so PLEASE check that you do carry the right oil onboard at outset as very few fuelling points en route will carry straight WT 40 oil in stock!!!
