I have a Technodrive TMC40 gearbox with a leak from the rear seal. Is this a common problem with this unit? Can it be repaired in situ or does the box hve to come out? Thanks.

I had to replace the rear seal on my TMC40 a few years ago. Installation was less than 2 years old!
Seals available from Fenner or BSL who I found to be much cheaper than other suppliers.
Remove the flexi coupling and slide the shaft back to give you some room to work.
Remove the split pin from the output drive flange securing nut.
Remove the output drive flange securing nut.
Remove the output flange.
Remove old seal carefully so as not to scratch the sides of the housing.
Fit new seal and drive into place.
Refit output flange
Refit output flange securing nut
Fit new splitpin to the output flange securing nut
Refit flexi coupling.
The hardest bit is removing the old seal. I made a hooked puller to ease the seal out although there are other methods using a medium size flat screwdriver, a hammer and some BF&I.
Thanks for that Tallon. My leak started as a minor drip and ended up peeing out.
As the unit has only done 100 hours this is a warranty issue, but I wanted to have some idea of the gravity of the problem. I might offer to remove the gearbox so it could be inspected on the bench. The last thing I want is for the poblem to arise again, when I am back in the water next season.
