Gatorgrip - might be useful for rounded-off nuts - only £13

A friend bought one, it wont work, at least not very well. It will not undo anything of normal tightness. Whenever I see these new super tools at boat/trade shows I always ask myself "if this is so good why are the pros not using it". The best thing for rounded nuts or bolts is to hammer a socket on smeared with grinding past.

There was an odd.looking adjustable on the market a few years back.
iirc it was called master wrench and sold by JML....yeah I know, JML, forget it :) It was an odd looking thing, but was exceptionally good at rounded nuts (providing they were tall enough)

I have one somewhere at the bottom of one of my toolboxes, somewhere. They are worse than useless. Even the ratchet handle that came with it was rubbish.

A set of flank drive sockets would be a better buy in the long term, I think. Much kinder to your nuts....

Does anyone have experience of the Irwin Bolt Grip Nut Remover? http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p81815
Yes. does what it says on the tin - bought a full set a few years ago and they have paid for themselves in the few times they have been used. sometimes one needs to go down a size to get a good grip. Removing teh nut can be fraught with danger but i am sure you will figure out how to remove the nut from the socket.

I've got a set and they work very well. However, I would only use them on a nut or bolt that was terminally damaged anyway; plan on replacing the nut or bolt after using them. However, if the bolt or nut wasn't at that stage, I'd expect a standard spanner or socket to work anyway.

+1, I thought that was taken for granted - if the nut or bolt needs the Irwin grips to remove it it is shot anyway.
One other thing - do not use them with an impact wrench - the "teeth" or "spirals" are hard - very hard, and sharp.
