Gas Safe requirements - Insurance survey - and 10 year old rigging

I replaced the 30+ year old gas system last winter. The orange hose that ran from the gas locker to the copper pipe was as good as the day it went in!
Dont bank on old hoses being OK.

I was going to use a piece (admittedly the black LP hose) that I had at home.... it must have been a short length left over from a previous hose replacement and looked absolutely perfect but when I pushed it on to the Fulham nozzle it simply split longitudinally.

It's true, when it comes to gas fittings and fitting, no two professionals seem to agree - even if interpreting the BSS "rules". I must admit that whilst I have an armoured hose to the stove - it was easier to fit to the existing compression fittings - everything else on boat and caravan is done with the orange HP hose in the hope that the outer case will make it longer lasting, though in fact all my pipework is low pressure.

Staloks and bronze turnbuckles. My last boat. And carry a roll of spare wire and some cones.
But it is a relatively big upfront capital cost. For those only keeping a boat till the next trade up, nonsensical. But nice.

That is because, as with so many things, there is more than one way of achieving the same objective, and the requirements have to cater for various different situations and choices of equipment. If a gas safety certificate is needed then it makes sense to follow the recommendations from the fitter who is going to issue the certificate.

Navtec, the US based supplier of rod and wire rigging, says that rigging should be thoroughly checked at 6 years and that the life of properly maintained wire rigging depends on environmental conditions such as heat and water salinity:

Heat and water salinity at maximum (Florida, Caribbean Islands) - 5 to 10 years
Heat and water salinity at medium levels (East/West coast of US) - 10 to 15 years
Fresh water - 15 to 20 years

>No it is not as various posts in this thread indicate.

10 years is a requirement with Pantaenius which is why their policies cover the rig.

That may well be the case, but you said insurers "normally" require it - and they don't. Some do but most don't. My insurer does not require it - and covers the rig.
