Do these things work? Anyone tried?

Yes they do work, but one slice at a time. Have tried all the available toasters over a period of years and this is the one we have found to be best.

Do NOT buy from a swindlery though, go to a camping shop and avoid the marine rip-off.

I have a similar one (detachable handle) bought in France. With mine, you have to watch it carefully as it works very fast. I cut the bread really thick and it produces must better toast than my home toaster.

Millets have these & they are stainless steel - we've had our about 5 years. Toasts ok, but you have to keep a close watch as it will burn the toast quite quickly

Mine's five yrs old now and I wouldn't be without it. Like all such devices you have to learn the burner setting for your particular cooker that gives the right compromise between soo slow and instant charcoal.
