I have a bit of work to do on Jissel's gas installation. I'm entirely comfortable with making compression joints, etc for a safe installation, but I'm not familiar with pipe sizes.

The current pipe is 6.5mm OD. Can anyone tell me what nomial size that is for ordering bits & bobs, please?

Are you talking about the copper tube.. If so its more likely to be 1/4" !

Metric is whole numbers of mm ie 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 mm

Imperial sizes are 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2"

I suggest BES for mail order fittings and tube etc. http://www.bes.co.uk/index.asp

Thanks Vic.

That's what I thought, so I was a bit confused by my measurement!

According to this http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/astm-copper-tubes-d_779.html, 1/4" pipe is 3/8" OD, which would be 9.5mm or thereabouts.

I was feeling well under par with the lurgy that's going around when I took the measurement, so it's always possible I misread. I'll have to take a bit of the pipe into my local chandlery who stocks a few bits to be sure.

The tables in engineering tool box are for nominal bore .

What you are interested in are the OD sizes, which are what I quoted. Unless something weird has been done by a previous owner.

When I did my gas system, a local plumber's merchant had the relevant pipe which was to the British Standard recommended by the Boat Safety Scheme. (I can't remember what it was though). You can also buy a cheap pipe bending tool that will take that size if you need to go round sharp bends.

Here we are

seamless copper tube which conforms to BS EN 1057 with copper or
copper alloy compression fittings

Sorry. Misunderstood your post as I have man flu. You don't seem to need pipe.

Copper tube of fractional imperial OD, eg 1/4" OD, is available from suppliers such as ASAP and others. They also sell compression fitting to suit, based on OD measurement AFAIK.
The OP's tube would appear to be 1/4"

I tend to use 8mm fittings and pipe as these are readily available from anyone stocking plumbing fittings.
