Dometics are riveted together for ease of construction. A simple repair like replacing a thermocouple is a major job, taking several hours and drilling out and replacing gazillions of rivets. You pays your money ...

My cooker is about 23 years old now, which might be relevant ....
If I close all the taps on the cooker, and then turn of the main gas tap, and then try to light one of the burners, it lights normally but goes out completely after a second or two. Fair enough, the butane in the pipe was under slight pressure and once the pressure drops to atmospheric, the flame goes out.
If I wait about 10 minutes between turning off the main gas tap and trying to light the burner - it still works as above, but the flame is feeble (and soon goes out, of course). If I wait much longer, I can't get the burner to light at all.
So it seems that I have a very small leak somewhere. I don't think it's in the pipework. So is one (or more) of the taps on the cooker is not closing properly?

(Incidentally, I wonder how many cookers would pass this test (ie the burner will still light up, even though for only a very short time, even after quite a while with the main tap OFF?)

Do I 1. observe that the leak is very small and stop worrying?
2. splash the cash and get a new cooker?

My boat has a fixed no gimbal Calor cooker - 2 burners, grill and oven. I've cooked while sailing ... anchored ... moored ..... without problem. My boat is smaller than your Jeanneau ....

I don't have flame failure ..

I don't have pan holders - which I keep meaning to get ....

Thanks for your input. It's not like we haven't cooked on the boat before, we certainly have. But a new cooker would definitely make the experience more comfortable and safer. Interestingly I just read "The Long Way" by Bernard Moitessier and it seems he didn't have a gimballed cooker either :ROFLMAO:

For what it's worth I'm trying to get my hands on a Dometic at a reasonable price, and just hope the rivets won't be a huge problem down the line. Unfortunately I've been sidetracked by other boat projects that seem to be of higher priority.
