Buying a gas bottle and the gas to go in it is proving very difficult here in Darthaven marina and the area in general. Anyone have any tips or suggestions (or an empty 7kg butane bottle for sale), have tried gumtree, Ebay, etc, but not having much luck. Seems like I can't buy a bottle without one to exchange.

I was in our local Calor centre a couple of weeks ago looking for an obscure refill for a torch bottle and discussed the 4.5 shortage. He advised that a batch of new bottles was due soon improving availability There were plenty of the 7.5 in the yard in Edinburgh . Even had a stack of my 2000 botlle

Was in the dump just now, chap chucking out a blue 7.5, so I had it. Gas in it as well, plus reg and a wand. Picked one up on the roadside a few weeks back, been there months, gas in it. So I have two spare bottles, if you're really stuck and pay carriage you can have one, but a wanted on fb marketplace should do you.

yes I was in my local garage in Sidmouth and a guy was trying to buy a 6kg propane and was very frustrated that if he had no bottle to exchange no gas. The filling station staff explained there was a national shortage of bottles.

Nop! just one 2000 type bottle which was about 40 years old . To tight to buy a set of new soldering/brazing torch nozzles to suite latest bottles.

Did you manage to get a fill or an exchange? I've got an empty 2000 bottle. Only 30 years old but it's good gear!

That's it, try council dumps; scrapyards too, they often have 'orphans' waiting disposal.

That can’t be right, how would you start with Calor then?
In the sixties Glogas started out and you got two bottles per appliance bought. Calor charged for bottles. Still a problem, I wanted blue 7.5 and they wouldn't trade for bigger propanes that I had already. Three of the four I have I got from folk about to dump them, the other was in the hedge.

Blimey, that’s chaotic!

I swapped a large orange one (14 kg I think) at a roofing centre for a 6kg, they weren’t fussed about what size bottle you returned as long as you had one. Might be worth a look in a roofing centre if anyone is struggling with their usual suppliers.

And then I thought I’d torch on some felt to weather in my new boiler flue.

How hard can it be?

Nearly set fire to the house!

We use 47kg bottles for our cooker at home, a pair on an automatic changeover. I only had one. I asked Calor and they wanted a stupid amount to hire a second one. I asked the local FloGas supplier and he gave me 2 just for the price of the gas in them, so he gets my business now refilling them.

Calor need a long hard look at how they operate.

(you get a lot of refills to small cylinders from a 47kg )

There isn’t a national shortage of bottles, Calor are just incompetent. Just as you can’t buy gas without an empty, retailers can’t send in empties without Calor having full ones. They could easily fix this tomorrow by just filling bottles. As said in other threads, my marina alone has 40-50 empties. That’s not a shortage.
