My main gas bottle has run out and I am anchored for a few days. What an incredible piece of back up kit this 'Bright Spark' single gas ring is. For a few pounds it takes a small cartridge of gas 227 grams and does what it says on the can. I have had it for 5 years and it can always be relied on.

Those little cookers come in handy. I’m banned from cooking anything ‘smelly’ in the boat so use one in the cockpit.

Be careful tho as they aren’t all ‘great quality’ and can leak gas. My sister had one that leaked around the cylinder valve and caught fire at that point burning her tent down. We always remove the cylinder and refit the cap when not in use.

I would never cook INSIDE a tent unless it was a very large tent.

Tip for those who only have room for 1 gas bottle. Learn how to self fill them. Then you can always start a trip with a full bottle.

It does, the plastic bag is to stop it going rusty if that's what you are wondering.

In the case of the OP I would keep a spare bottle in something like this if he's concerned about it, but I would certainly have a spare bottle by some means.

Sorry mixed you up with OP who said he didn't have vented storage for the spare. That's why I mentioned the vented anchor locker as I thought he was saying that's where the spare was kept.:D

Doesn't the anchor locker have a drain just above the waterline? I keep a can of petrol on a shelf in mine as it's a vented locker.
The trouble with LPG is it is heavier than air so if it gets into the bilges you have a problem. I was told it flows like water to the lowest part of the boat. Petrol is a slight risk but it evaporates
If you spill petrol it's soon dried up and gone.

Petrol evaporates and becomes a vapour that is heavier than air.

I have a spare Gaz bottle that I keep in a canvas bag purpose made for me by Lonton & Gray. It just fits in the corner of the pushpin and has a double rub part where it rubs the rail & post. A cord holds it tight to the push pit and the opening cord also is long enough to tie to the stanchion in the corner so it is quite secure
In that position it is out of the way under the emergency lucky sick bucket

Campingaz 901s make great spare gas cylinders for 907 users, though I understand they are hard to find these days.
Very expensive way to buy gas but the convenience of the size, ease of swapping when needed and security of the screw-down sealing cap make up for it. Much easier to store than a second 907.
