A quite specific query on updating a Garmin plotter with built in charts.
The charts on my 750 are overdue an update which is available as a download or by purchasing the updates on a card direct or through a chandlery (same price)
I understand that you then operate the plotter with the update card plugged in permanently as the inbult charts are not altered. OK so far, but what happens when I want to use the chart on my computer using the Homeport programme. Normally you transfer a copy of the chart from the plotter to a card and take it to your PC card reader, but if the updates are on another card can I get the updated version to use on Homeport or is homeport restricted to the original version? Not critical but I wonder if anyone has come across this issue?

I've downloaded updates for my 551 and used them wtih Homeport.

The updates seem to be complete copies of charts - so I just put the update card into my computer and it worked fine.

You can even make a copy of the card if you want to be able to leave one in the plotter when not transferring tracks/waypoints etc.

Thanks, that seems to make more sense than the understanding the chandlery got from Garmin on the phone.
