I’ve had one of these and found it to be a useful bit of kit, not just for sailing, but also for running, golf etc. Just recently it has stopped syncing properly with the Garmin app on my phone, so activities that I have recorded on the watch are no longer being transferred to the app. It still records steps, heartbeat ok, and the activities are working fine while I am doing them. I have tried to reboot both phone and watch, uninstall and reinstall the app, unpair and pair the watch / phone, as advised by Garmin, but to no avail.
Has anybody any experience of this? Have I inadvertently suppressed the sync function?

I've had this problem on my Forerunner 35 (a lot) and connecting it by USB cable to the Garmin express app on a pc sometimes worked and cleared the problem. It's intensely frustrating.

Is this an iPhone or Android?

Assume you've not inadvertently put the watch into flight mode (easy on the touch screen!). Do notifications etc. work and does it connect with Bluetooth? Have you removed it from the Bluetooth list as well as Garmin Connect?

As Mark-1 said, Garmin Express on a computer will sync and uses USB mass storage mode so it's very hard to be completely stuck with Garmin. May be worth running web updater with the watch plugged in just in case you need an update https://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27

Can't comment on HK, but in the UK Garmin would have replaced your watch by now just in case it was hardware.

Thanks. It’s iPhone and the app I have is Garmin connect, not express. I wasn’t aware the watch can go on flight mode
- will check this. I’m still getting notifications when Bluetooth is on. I did remove it from Bluetooth and then re connected it, but didn’t fix the problem.

Express is a “desktop” app for big computers while connect is the phone app.
If notifications are working then you’re not in flight mode and it is working as expected. There’s a setting to auto upload and that’s probably the issue. I’ll see if I can find it on my Epix

Hmm can’t find the setting for some reason (possibly wine!). As I said though notification suggests Bluetooth is working so there’s some other issue

Mine has a little glitch, a bit annoying this week, though it’s not solely responsible for our horrible starts….. it is 2 seconds slow, exactly, unless it’s been synched in the last few hours. Anyone any idea what’s going on there? Quatix 5.

Depends how you have it set to sync time. I think by default it syncs to the phone regularly. This is nice until you need to know the time when sailing between Channel Islands and Portsmouth where you cross time zones with intermittent phone signal regularly. You can choose to sync to satelites, and then the time would depend on which constellation you are using which should be but isn't guaranteed to be the same on all services.
What are you comparing it to?

My phone, the boat radio clocks (x2) and the RYS timekeeper. All of those say the same. My watch begs to differ.

under System|time|Set Time, try setting that to manual and then go to System|Time|Time Sync and sync using GPS and see what happens. I've never seen this behaviour and I have a lot of Garmin watches!

When the sync stop working and turning the watch off and on again doesn't solve the problem, the recommended solution is to unlink the watch from the Connect app, and then add the watch back into Connect again.

Thanks. Yes I tried that without success. After a call with Garmin it now syncs if I connect it to the laptop using the cable, but apart from the steps it won’t update activities via Bluetooth. Another call will be needed I think.
