I believe that if something looks to good to be true, then it is to good to be true.....
Has anyone any experience of buying any of these units that are swamping ebay at present....Seems risky to me.... Seller is in China.

e.g. here for a Garmin GPSMAP 60CS

Have a look at Feed back. It would appear that the way to get 100% positive feed back is to sell yourself, friends and family "Hello Kitty Dotty Powder Blue Beach Towels" Just the sort of item that leads onto world wide sales of Garmin Chart Plotters.

Agreed..... I have seen that... and the history is very recent on it all... even not able to pay by paypall which would give protection..... but how/why can this get into the system....... they are either great bargains... or a lot of people are going to get ripped off today.

Hi

Bought a Garmin 76 map on ebay for a 1/3rd of the retail cost. The unit was new.
Take a look on ebay the same guy is selling more sets. So the chances are you could pick up one at the right price. Just a note these sets are Garmin reworks.

I make it a habit of only being from UK based sellers, I certainly wouldn't buy from one based in China.

I would also be very concerned about this auction. The feedback for this ebayer is very suspect, the auctions were all very short and most of the purchasers are no longer registered ebay users. SCAM

If you can't pay by Pay Pal don't buy it!!! It's almost certainly a con and you will have no chance of getting your money back.

I have bought loads of stuff on eBay from China and never had a problem. However all were paid for using PayPal so there is protection there.

I even had a bluetooth GPS sensor go wrong 9 months after i bought it and wrote to the seller to see if he had any idea what the problem was, he sent me a new GPS at no charge without even wanting the old one back.

Not all Chinese sellers are crooks, but i agree if they don't take PayPal then keep well away from them.

Effectively thats not much use in the UK, As it is a american model and the UK basemaps are a different format to stop grey imports.

How to get conned

My Dad told me many years ago. "Only the greedy get conned and if it looks too good to be true then it is too good to be true" Dont touch them with a bargepole. Look at prices in the USA and if they are cheaper than that then worry. Only pay by PAYPAL and certainly not by Western Union or Escrow.

Re: How to get conned

My ongoing search for a Furuno Fax brought up a hint from a foromite who said there was one for sale on ebay. I bid for it and lost due to the high price. A week later, I got a "second chance" offer from the seller at my last bidding price. He would only accept Western Union, which I refused and demanded the goods first. He disappeared.

Let the buyer beware.

Agreed, for another example look at item 5839523072 and the users feedback here

These units are available for £1500-£2200 in the UK so clearly a sub-£100 price is a bit too good, not to mention the item is in China and the eBay user is in Germany....

1. No Paypal 'Velly solly, Chinese cannot use Paypal yet' - why ever not? Lots of other chinese traders do....

2. Payment by 'Western Union' or similar cash transfer. PRECISELY what Ebay tell you NEVER to do: you have no cover.

Its defintely a Scam.

Ebay were on Tv last night saying thet were about to change the rules to prevent sellers requesting payment by cash transfer methoids such as Western Union.

So why did Ebay allow such a blatant scammer to advertise at all!

Paypal
has limited cover and then only under certain conditions it's a two way thing I sold a fella a new carburetter he winged and I said ok send it back I'l give you your money back
There was nout wrong with the carb it was new and spot on for the job but I never waste time in these circumstances and refund.
Thing is when I got it back parts were swapped I told him he imiediately put a complaint into paypal who put that amount on hold but after they went into it said nout they could do, meaning it's easy for some one to get away conning to a point using paypal
so beware
cheers
