I have a Garmin Chart Plotter, BlueChart on a card and Memory map charts on DVD on the laptop. Can I update the chart plotter charts with the DVD charts? if yes, how? if no, what can I do other than buy new chart cards?

You can (could?) buy blank cards and load the charts for the area you are interested in. I own five or six DVDs used in my travels from Holland to Greece. I also have two blank cards that I update as necessary. You also need the little USB card reader.

That's for a 2010, now obsolete, so can't swear to this facility with current models.

Garmin have stopped producing Blucharts, they only now do Bluchart G2 and Bluchart G2 Vision. This caused me some grief as I had to upgrade from a perfectly functioning 2010C to a new 5012 plotter. As far as I am aware Garmin plotters will only run their own charts.

I spoke to Garmin about this two or three years ago at LIBS. Their intention then was that they would supply a free software update to allow a 2010 to run Bluechart G2. However at SIBS 2010 I again visited them and found that their Bluechart G2 charts of Greece, my sailing area, are exactly the same as the old Bluechart ones, so I decided to keep with the 2010.
