So installed the wifi gizmo and booted up garmin helm. Nothing.

Called garmin. Ah sir that app is not compatible with the 7000 series. Boat is 6 months old. Bit pissed off !

The only thing that works is garmin blue chart. And wait for it .... You have to buy a chart for about £85. The network has a chart !

Garmin guy was very nice but I do feel done!

Are there any other. Apps that work with garmin plotters I can try. Just want the plotter screen to show!

Thx

Jeremy

Ps cold and raining in Mallorca so it is not all sun and sangria!

Erk, yes. It only works (brilliantly) with 8000 series.

You know what to do.

How many screens do you have to sell, and what size are they? I do have an idea here...

ah,

slowly learning all the models, specs, do's and don'ts and what if and hows.

NOT easy, NOT intuitive, very close to keeping my 3006C plotter and be done with.

cannot fit an 8000 series as I need 8inch and there's 8008 that is 3.5Keuro and I'm now looking at the new generation
7inch MFD style plotters with built in wifi, but too expensive for what they are (imho) plus they don't do video in-out :( and only have 1 netport and wont work with my old sounder box.

nice kit, would be lovely to have a page comparing the various Garmin offerings on a per screensize basis, alas

cheers

I upgraded my 5000 Series to 3 X 8015 and one 8012. I was shocked at how much I got on eBay for the old 5000 Series. And the new 8000 are a marked improvement.

Shocked at how high a price you got admillington? Yup that's my understanding. Jrudge you should just upgrade. The 8000 are stunningly good and the wifi is icing on cake. On passage I steer boat from subbed via i-thing. Cool as!

spent the last couple of hours going through specs...

Seems that 721 and 751 (couldn't figure out diffs, other than the 5 has uk maps on it, but could be wrong...) can do what I mostly want and will work with wifi and Bluetooth and let you view the map from an i device or android. Seriously considering one of these and a pad on the f/b for the clean minimal look :D
Very odd that they got the new design on the small plotters first and then on the 8000 leaving all the rest way behind (designwise and slightly featurewise)

Also confused on why ppl spend so much on s/h 6 and 7 series plotters on ebay, anyone care to explain? You can easily pay more for a 5008 than a 721 (ok, one inch difference but older tech, slower, no wifi, and old styling)

Lovely suggestion but I think I will stay with the 7012 s.

Essex offered a ps on them from new to the 8000 ( can't remenber the deal) but I had my chance !

Sun now out in Mallorca. Just fitted water maker rather proud of myself. We not so proud as I badly cut my thumb on a pipe cutter and it took 40 mins to stop bleeding !

Sorry it it was unclear - how high - certainly more than 50% of the original RRP
