I cannot use GAC on my computer or my old version Ipad. As there will be issues with internet requirements for entry & exiting France, Belgium Netherlands & the return home I have decided to purchase one of the cheaper Apple Ipad air models with data communication etc.
I cannot get on with my Iphone6, it is too fiddly to see & key entry is a faff.
I have a Garmin 95 SV chart plotter on deck but it is a hassle because one has to set any routes whilst sitting in the cockpit. Difficult as I cannot lay the charts out at the same time. As a result I tend to stick with just its AIS capabilities & use my Yeoman with proper charts for route planning. Same for any detailed bits on route.
With a newer version IPad I should be able to link it with the chart plotter using GAC. Then I can passage plan at home & transfer to the chart plotter whilst sitting in the cabin- at least I think I can.
So the question is this:-
If I install navionics on the Ipad can i use that to passage plan at home or in the cabin & can I then take a route etc & down load it to my Garmin using wifi & Active Captain-- Assuming that is what one is meant to do
Is that the right App to use or do I need a different one. ( Please do not suggest open CPN & the like i have no idea how to use it, I need a proper purchasable working app with proper instructions):(

Don’t know about the Garmin but I use Navionics on iPad to do all my route planning at home and then sync to plotter on boat, it does not need to use the link app that mirrors the plotter (Lawrence) and just uses Wi-Fi link, would be surprised if the Garmin did not do similar.

I'm in the same boat so to speak, but have successfully added GAC to my mobile and plotted and transferred routes can to my Garmin 95SV, you need a relatively new iPad to run GAC but I was surprised how easy it was to plot routes using my phone. Maybe worth that before trying Navionics ?

No I gave up using the phone. Waste of time as too fiddly & unable to see the wider world, which is the trouble with all these plotters. probably explains why a Yeoman has its followers. I can just plug it in the cabin or cockpit as required

You can download your charts FOC to GAC on the iPad and sync that with the plotter when you arrive. No need to use Navionics, unless you especially want to.
