Dear all

On the boat today and I find that my Garmin 750 touchscreen chartplotter is not 'reading' the radar. In other words, it doesn't recognise it and there is no button showing that it is present.

I have checked the data cable on the plotter and it is soundly attached. When I remove the fuse from the radar power feed and reconnect it the radar powers up for about 2 mins and then shuts down. Both systems were new a couple of years ago and have been fine since set up.

Can anyone suggest other remedies?

Thanks in advance

Nick

I can't suggest any remedies, but I'd also be checking the data connection at the radome. SOunds like power supply is fine but data isn't. Does it show up under the communications/network tab on the plotter?

Nothing showing radar coming up on the communications / network tab. Data cable seems fine where it enters radome. I wonder if there is any way of checking the data cable integrity?

Problem solved! Although the job was done professionally, I have discovered that the data cable ends, where cut to feed through the cabin roof, were re-joined using a junction box prone to rust, and the connections had failed...

Thanks for your help anyway Keith.

Nick

Glad you found the problem. The cable is a standard Ethernet cable in 'crossover' format. You could easily get a new one made up by a decent computer shop.
