from various reviews (of different models from those 2).....inside : colour is nicer/easier to read. Outside: despite the "viewable in bright sunlight" claims....some displays are very hard to see in bright cloud (if you see what I mean).

I've got a Garmin 230 B&W have to say that i've been very happy with it. Screen is nice and large and its viewable in even bright sunlight.

It developed an intermittent fault after the warranty ran out Garmin replaced it by return of post.

Re: Garmin 235

Dom, I have the 235 and would rate it very highly. Admittedly I would now probably go for a colour screen from preference, but at about £430 the 235 is superb value. Also the screen is large and can be easily seen in all lights. I do have to alter the contrast fairly regularly, but that only takes seconds.

Thanks John whats the depth sounder/fish finder facility like on yours?

I am looking at getting the 238 as colour would not be as good as it sounds on my boat.

Re: Garmin 235

Very rarely use the so called fihfinder as they never seem to find real fish! However as a depth sounder it's as good as any of the other makes, but I do have a Furuno colour sounder which I use all the time and is a superb bit of kit.
