can anybody recomend any games or anything instructive to do with boating.

Yes, RYA Yachtmasters CD, basic as regards graphics etc, but tons of information + some chartwork + exams. Not cheap, but go to RYA site for more info. There was a CD out a few years ago which I believe has been updated, I think its title was American Cup (or similiar) which was as you imagine about racing yachts. I was not over impressed with the original but things have moved on a pace since then.

This here, and <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.benbik.com/pcgames/pcgamepreviews/virtual-skipper-3-pc.shtml> here ; although I have found most sailng pc games more complicated than the real thing and not so enjoyable.

If you do a google search for: sailing pc games, it will throw up some others as well.
