Galvanised Diesel tank

I have the view that this is a bad idea, but a respected friend with many years exp in marine engines disagree's with me.

What do you think ? and why?

I think the sulphur in the diesel dissolves the zinc wich then plugs the injectors.

My Lister diesel generator instalation manuals say NO. Prob for the reason stated. I had to reject a big one on site once. Very unhappy supplier bunnies.

I'm a galvanizer, and of course want people to protect steel from corrosion, but I agree, this is not a good idea.

My diesel tank is galvanised. It's just over 35 years old and was condemned by a surveyor over 15 years ago. It's still fine and so is the engine BUT...

...I don't know that it is galvanised on the INSIDE. I'd have to take a great deal of boat to pieces to find out so I never have!
