have a look at the new Galeon here

I think this is another builder raising its own bar in the last 5 years, and I also like this hardtop design too considering its 10 metres...

may be some friends over here also inspected the boat in Dusseldorf too and can tell us more

here are the pics. I thought it was a nicely laid out boat with some good design touches and well screwed together. they have jacked their prices up to match mind, and will now have to compete directly with the big boys as the price advantage with the brand has all but gone.

325 Open (i prefered this to the HT)

But maybe thats because the HT was in orange?

Helm - Nice and just about room for a decent plotter/radar combo:

You get two cabins in a 32ft boat, but as you expect the forward one is all bed:

Though the aft one is a fair size:

And a fairly standard Loo:

All things considered I liked it, but the prices they had on the stand suggested a 325 open with twin diesels would be around €160,000 euros inc 19% VAT, so i guess about £145,000 over here including shipping etc etc. The hard top is a €12,000 premium taking the diesel boat to €172,000 or £155,000

Dunno how that compares to a similar Bavaria or Beneteau, but I would say the material quality used is definitly ahead of the Bav.

Oh, and Galeon no-longer have a UK dealer apparently which is a shame. Anyone fancy giving it a go?

looks nice I admit
they are uping there game so it is impossible to have the same prices as before
the 325 I reviewed it in October or September, like the hard top though too much, it looks good on this size and the pictures show it well made too

Also called the mustang 3500 (not Mustang marine though) in Australia and something else in Norway.

Built in China, looks ok but the hard top design is very heavy.

Have looked into this one, not sure its 100% there yet

Agree with you both. Crude would be my word. But I don't know the price in Norway/Aus. From memory, I think I saw the equivalent of GBP120K ex vat here. Total ownership cost would be cheaper for a Windy. Also more fun.

That's the problem I have with the Galeon. Nothing unique, and many others with better reputations around.

hmm I would not put Galeon off
first they have a new Tony Castro hull on this model, which would give a fight to the Windy ride
second I think they improved a lot, and when a company is improving and aiming higher you know it just get better, they have also a nice 70 feet HT in built too, so that is saying something
I also think that as 10 metre 33 feet Hard Top boat it looks good too, IMO it is one of the best out there for a Sports Cruiser of this size
by looks alone it is better to Prestige 34 with HT, which I like a lot on looks...

dont put Poland away for skills many Feadships and Lurseens hulls are built there and then fitted in Germany, so Poland along with Turkey and Croatia would be my tipped countries as those competing in the boat building world in the near future

cost was a bit less before the $ strengthend. They were talking $156,000 ex VAT as a dealer price. SO thath was about £80k plus VAT and margin.

And even then it didnt look hugely cheap for waht it was.

Just remembered the Norweigen name - the Ram 35 HT

I guess it might ride better than a Prestige 34, but I'd have to doubt Windy Scirocco!

I agree it looks nice.

Am certainly not judging the boat by nationality, nor by the fact it isn't a mainstream builder. I'm a great fan of some Chinese built boats (Selene, Nordhavn etc), and always enjoy new makers.

I guess I don't have a problem with the Galeon... it's just not very interesting at the price. If I hear people saying that it's the most incredible sea boat or that it has some other outstanding virtues, I'd be happy for them.

$156K would be pretty good. Guess the exchange rate screwed that. I work with US$ (pegged or direct), so the current GBP exchange rate is more in line with what I've been used to over the past 20 years...

Ignoring currencies, I don't think it's a particularly good deal.

Judging by some other boats I have seen here at 50% of European or US retail, I think it could be had much lower. As it perhaps should.

I would agree with you there PY. As you know some very fine yards in Poland on the superyacht front and also the deal between Numarine in Turkey to supply the German fit out yards with all the joinery.

Anyone who dismisses Poland or some of the eastern med builders is making a mistake, lots of builders (some very well known) are outsourcing a lot of their build or components to these yards. Even Nordhavn are now switching some of their production to China and nothing wrong with that when you see the quality they can produce.

As far as Galeon, some of the smaller models are a bit asthethically callanged but they are moving away from the small and early design stuff to much more edgey and very sharp designs, the new 80 Raptor due in 2010 is a stunner and will give any yard UK or worldwide a real good run for its money.

The new 64 is a good boat, OK some bits you could argue about as with any boat but a very nice machine and if you watch the video she rides beautifully unlike some recent launches from established builders which look as if the boat is pointing to the moon.

Some?

I bought a Galeon 330 flybridge new in 2005 and it has served me well, I bought it when the pound was strong against the euro,I looked at Sealine at the time but prefered the layout of the Galeon, separate shower cubicle on the port side and toilet and hand basin on the starboard side, in 3 years of ownership I have only suffered a power trim problem that was sorted with Volvo warranty.I would not hesitate in buying another one as I have been more than happy with the build quality. I have now advertised mine for sale as I enjoy sailing and wish to purchase a yacht, but I am not fussed whether it sells or not as I still get great enjoyment using it.
