Let me know when you are in Rankoskär and if I'm in the area I'll stop to say hello and pick some cloudberries jam, jam. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The RNLI cover is not deficient it is simply that for instance they do not need an inshore lifeboat for Calshot because of Hamble Rescue having a specialist RIB (twin 330HP water jet capable of being run up the mud to get to casualties, bollard pull of 2 tonnes or 38 knots speed) and so on. http://www.hamblelifeboat.com.

Local independent but Coastguard coordinated organisations provide appropriate cover around the Solent so the RNLI doesnt need to duplicate it.

Can I put all of your minds at rest. I am a crew member for Cowes Inshore Lifeboat. We are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The independent organisations have their own areas which they are responsible for, as do the RNLI. Therefore if their was an incident between Cowes and Newtown creek we would be called rather than Lymington ILB, as this is out of their area. Think of the solent split in pieces and each lifeboat has its own patch and tasked accordingly by the Coastguard. Our area is from Wooton to Newtown Creek extending across to the beaulie side once west of the Bramble.

Hope this clears it up for you
