Not yet ! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Just checking Navichart. Is the entrance really so narrow that I couldn't get in ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Your boat is wider than mine is long! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
It would be a tight fit. Difficult to say really. Here is another pic of the entrance itself. But there is nothing to get a scale from. I have a better chart at home, I could check exactly how wide it is. Anyway you would probably have difficulties turning around but I guess you could aways go out again in reverse. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Oh and don't know why the anchor warp does not show on the pic. I had one out I promise!
Helinä is 12,10 long but thanks to two engines it turns on it's place ! If I could get inthis would be a nice place to add on list of places to stay overnight.
Do you sail in Finland and/or Ahvenanmaa ?
You could probably moor outside the entrance if the wind is from everywhere but dead south. There is very little swell as there are lots of skerries and shallows outside. Well you have seen it on the chart.
I have not yet sailed over to your side but I definitively will eventually. I am gradually prepairing my wife for longer open sea passages...
That said my mother-in-law's brother (would that be an uncle-in-law then?) rents a house on Rankoskär just north of Åland (I can't spell it your way, sorry!) so, I have it definitely on the list. Your whole Skärgårdshavet looks like paradise as well. I find the Stockholm archipelago a bit crowded during high summer in fact.
BTW Sorry Smiffy for hijacking that thread of yours!
Really ? I've been to Rankoskär several times. On the west side there is a nice little bay well protected. Snorkeling 15 min and a pike of 3kg for lunch. Cool chardonnay and walk in the forrest and you can find buckets of cloudberries for dessert. Great place !
Yes that's what he says as well. Never been there myself, but my wife was when she was little. Says there where quite a few snakes though. Probably means she saw a single one!

Not a problem! All interesting stuff /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif That bit of chart you posted, could you put into geographical context? Looks really very nice.
As an ex Calshot (RNLI) lifeboat crewmember I can safely say that the various rescue organisations work in harmony. For instance, the RNLI provide 24hr cover with a greater ability to provide / perform medical help, but not all of the volunteer services do. They however will patrol at busy times and be able to respond more quickly to their local area. We are lucky to be so well catered for in the Solent.
Ah, looks nice. Wonder why Google has higher resolution there than on the Swedish side.
I need to get charts for that area. Are there new Åland charts out now? Last spring they told me they were just due for update but they had not got them yet.
On the swedish side they are afraid of the visibility of yellow submarines ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I think my Åland series is from 2005 . You can order that from http://www.karttakeskus.fi/
Thanks, I'll check if thats cheaper than at the Chandler's here. I guess the C-series is what I need. Now I only have to persuade my wife to go to Åland this summer. HAHA
