One of my fwd bunk long foam bases with the vinyl cover ... white piping seam has opened up along one seam for about half the length....

Is there any way to fix this as the vinyl cover, foam and the plastic piping seam items are undamaged.

Here you see them in place ...

Trouble is finding one here !!

Just wondered if anyone had done the job themselves ... must admit I found it hard to see how the seam was made .. I assume its glued ?
I would assume it is stitched

Take the foam out, turn the cover inside out and you will see and if stitched re-stitch it. A decent domestic sewing machine will do the job but use the correct needle ( The one for leather I'd think) and some decent thread and take it gently
A short length you could do by hand if you take care to use the existing holes
Don't let the missus see you !

In the unlikely event that it is glued use the glue for PVC dinghies

Trouble with that .... there's no zip or way to turn it back .... its got me baffled ... or so it seems .. maybe I missed it. I have zips on the velour covers of the main cabin ... but fwd cabin is vinyl because of condensation and wipe clean ease.

I'll be looking again at it ... it needs airing anyway before repair.

Maybe its an idea to convert to zipped ?
Or velcro? It appears the stitching has come undone or rotted away or just pulled out of the vinyl
It has to have been sewn inside out to get the piping between the two pieces of vinyl to hide the stitching.. One end somewhere must have been sewn from the outside ?
Once you can get the foam out and turn the cover inside out i think it will become abvious how its sewn together

I am avoiding pulling the foam out - I reckon the stitching will all let go if I do !

Close inspection does show stitching ... I looked closely at all piping seams and I cannot see any difference on any ...

I expected to see one seam slightly different but no - all same.

I am seriously thinking to give all the vinyl items to upholsterer and have them redone but one seam with zip.

If your carefull i cant see why you cant sew by hand the vinyl back onto the visible white edge of the piping but you will see the thread.
Must be a firendly "wife" with sewing machine somewhere nearby who could do it for you? ;)

Might be best to hand sew it back together, if stitching has gone that rotten may fall apart trying to get it off ?

I showed Wife today and she looked at me ... then said :

You can do that .......... I know because all the stuff you do repairs on ...

So with that - I took the item and spent last hour sewing it back up ... in fact it doesn't look bad at all ... and its the bottom edge seam anyway - so will not be seen when in place.

I have built a 12m x 7m 2.5 story workshop / garage - but internally its not completed due to slow down in work in Middle East.

It's intended that all moves over to the second floor there and then second floor of the house will be freed up.

My Workshop Model area 8m x 7m :

Half height 'attic storage' for models etc.
