We have been offered a Furuno 1720 Radar set with a custom built SS bracket for the dome , it has been previously been fitted to a yacht but looks in good condition although the bracket would have to be modified to fit our mast. He is asking £150 Is this a fair price? Another route would be to wait a bit and buy a new garmin radar dome to go with our new garmin 4012 chart plotter that I will probably fit AIS to.

I had a furuno 1721 but recently changed, good set in all but the display being CRT was like having an old TV straped to the dash!.

For £150 I would say buy it & use it, you should return your outlay when you decide to upgrade by selling it on, unless you have to get someone in to fit it.

Ebay usually returns around £150 for a complete package in working order, no mater how old, newer Raytheon or Raymarine kit approx £450 - £550 depending on equipment spec.

Will give you a good understanding of radar in use before you get the expensive kit.

Is the cable (from dome to set) all in one piece, or was it cut to make installation easier on the original yacht? If it's been cut then make sure the two lengths are suitable for your proposed installation and that the junction box (or whatever has been used to re-join the cable) is suitable.
