Funny Friday Facts for the ladies...

amazing how you can quote a 'fact' like that and people will believe it. it's a technique used frequently in promoting alternative medicines, miracle gadgets, conspiracy theories or stories of visiting aliens. the term 'factoid' was originally coined to mean incorrect ideas that were so often repeated that they had acquired the status of facts.

The only "fact" that I quoted (apart from saying that I worked for a life assurance company and studied mortality) was that Asians don't live as long as westerners". I learnt that whilst I was studying mortality. This was a serious study, and not something that I had just read in the Sun.

by <a 'fact' like that> i meant the story that left handers die younger. i was making the point that people will hear something like that and not question it.
