Funky Sockets?

Are these at the Mast Step? Presumably for electronics/electrics up the mast. 4 pin version looks like fairly heavy duty so my immediate guess would be Nav Lights. Fits with the 4 pins too I think (GND, Port+Starbd, Steaming White, Anchor White?)

The other looks like finer data? Similar to things you see on some electronics kit -- Wind Speed, Direction, GPS, AIS, Radar...) Hard to know without knowing what is (or was) up the mast? Where do the inside connections go...

The right-hand one is for a remote handset for a Standard Horizon VHF.

The left-hand one is a standard type of socket that a previous owner might have fitted for any purpose. Likely possibilities (depending on location) include a tillerpilot, a portable plotter, or a spotlight - but you'll have to follow the wiring behind it really.

Or see what bits of equipment have matching plugs!

They look like they're on the side of the cockpit to me. The black on is probably for a tiller pilot, the chrome one could be anything requiring power like a searchlight or something. Is there a mounting on the seat/coming for autopilot, that would confirm it's use.
Try to trace the wiring or poke a multi meter in to see if any voltage present.

Good point. Although the previous owner may have taken whatever plugged into the left-hand socket with him, or it was fitted years ago and the item has since been lost/disposed of/replaced. But certainly if there's a tillerpilot or spotlight on board the OP should check if it fits.

The left one is a Standard Hella Marine socket, the nightmare of all salt water sailors. 4 Pin would be for mast lights ( neg. ground, anchor, steam, decklights ).
The right one looks to me as a radar connector, a autopilot connector would have less and thicker pins )

Thanks for the replies guys.

No equipment left on the boat. They're located on the bulkhead in the cockpit to the side of the hatch.

The standard horizon males sense although the handheld unit is not with the boat.

Can't see a mounting for a tiller pilot anywhere.

There is also a four pin down below. Will probably change it out for a cig lighter charging point.

Or the four pin might be the power supply to the autopilot. Why don't you check it our with a suitable Voltmeter ?
AFAIK Autohelm had a 4 ( or 5  ) pin connector. + and - 12 V, the other two for NMEA 183

As prv says the right-hand one is for a Standard Horizon remote.
If the seller didn't pass the handset on to you I happen to have a spare that might do for you, if you're interested.

I said in my previous reply that it looked like they are mounted in the cockpit so mast lights/radar are unlikely. Many others seem to assume they are at the mast foot.
I think that would be rather eccentric in the cockpit :)

Nobody's actually reading this thread, are they? :D

Why even try to guess? either trace the wiring and make use of the circuit (if you can source a compatible plug) or simply ignore it/rip it out.

In case anyone in the future should ask why their Sadler has a 'weird' 5-pin connector (actually an XLR audio connector) apparently going to a 4-pin Bulgin connector in the cockpit ...... well, its for the ram of my analogue Autohelm 2000 :D:D:D (I just happened to have a lot of spare XLRs at the time!).
