I agree that it's mainly an age issue. They used to say that a cruising boat should be the length in feet of your years.
Crikey, I should be having one of the larger Oysters then.
Seriously though, as said earlier it is a function of age to a degree, backs, hips etc less flexible, and to have to move around in a crouch or worse on hands and knees is no longer an option at our time of life.
It was definitely one of the boxes which needed ticking when we were looking to buy a cruiser after many years of day racing.
