Hi I see there are some discussions regarding diesel fuel additives I have just laid the boat up and have calculated the years running cost f****ng extortion............
Some good products out there though even if they are expensive...............
I have had a trial run 2 years ago from Mr Soltron (don’t know his name) but after I dived under his boat in Jersey marina to remove a rope form his propeller he gave me a choice of a bottle of whisky or some soltron to try..(Should have taken the whisky)........ this started me on the fuel additive exploration and after trying half a dozen or so I am now using the Australian made Fuel doctor supplied by BA peters and I don’t know whether it is physiological or not, but the 2 green lumps seem to run sweeter, don’t know if I had any fuel problems in the first place as it was a nearly new boat 250 hours used every weekend.
But I definitely get better Gallons per hour and she cruises at approx 100 rpm less to achieve the same speed over water, additionally we initially had a 30 knot boat which dropped to 29 knots then we achieved 32 knots this year and are easily achieving 30 knots now.
I feel this is the way to go rather than the kerosene based previously mentioned product,
Which after some research would bear our why there is less smoke from it, but also the additional hazard of the scouring action it may have on the injectors and or fuel pump.................... I’m no chemist but it does not take much research.
Hope this has been of some assistance to anyone one the same additive quest that I was
Regards
Stuart.

I don't see that a fuel additive could reduce revs for a set speed. This would be a function of boat weight or clean hull.

Interesting to note that 'Fuel Set' is also of Australian origin. Can anybody think of why there should be incentive for additive companies in Australia?, or is it coincidental, or maybe 2 people working together, then they go their separate ways, and there are two companies.

Hi Kim No problem;
If the engine is producing a more efficient power/torque curve then the prop speed can be reduced hence the prop/water (cavitations) slip becomes less i.e. the higher up the rev range the greater the prop/water (cavitations) slip.
If you can swing the same prop with more torque behind it, at a lower RPM then less slip will occur, consequently if you have more power behind the prop and the revs are dropped you are just pushing more water or the same amount & making the whole train more efficient.
Regards

You obviously need manners never mind a read at the principles of vortex panel fluid dynamics (...(the equation sqrt(r2-(x-0.5)2) - sqrt(r2-0.25) gives the necessary y-increments in terms of the chordwise position x and the radius of curvature r (>0.5), both in chordlengths. Repeat this process with different radii of curvature until you have a clear picture of the effects of airfoil camber on surface pressure distribution, lift and moment coefficient and zero lift angle of attack. Note that the NACA 0012 airfoil is initially uncambered).
Please dont use my private email for your dumping ground and comments like that.
Behaving like the typical uneducated/opinionated without substance know it all (know nothing) proverbial barrow boy is obviously how you conduct yourself……………Please go away………….
Like you said………….

No.....you go away......we were here first.........

How dare you be rude to my friend Haydn....he's perfectly entitled to his opinion and I think I agree with him.......and I see jfm seems to as well so u might as well give in gracefully cos us three represent a solid core of forum opinion.......

So lets see you try and torque yourself out of this one ! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

This is getting a bit nonsensical Vital spark. Are you really being serious? It is crystal clear that no fuel additive on the planet - including all the ones that haven't even been invented yet -can cause a boat to travel same speed for fewer rpm

Oi. The only vital spark I ever knew, was on an old rust bucket in Crinnan and there was'nt much of a spark left in that either!!. By the way. The bloke you met in Jersey was Domanic.
