Fuel timing pump shears all four drive bolts!

A friend of mine, whose boat has twin KAD42 (1992), has just had a Fuel Timing Pump shear all four drive bolts on one of the engines.

Any ideas why this should happen?

something badly broken or seized inside the pump!!

I’d say they probably have either been left loose or incorrectly tightened from a previous repair .
