Fuel tank leak

Strange yours is 5 years old and there are others 15 years old and yours is the first one the factory has been asked how to remove the tank!
I agree...I have been told of tank replacements in the ST42 but I don’t know any in the ST34...if anyone wants to research they are welcome

Of course it’s quite possible that while the boat hasn’t much changed in its production run, that there are variations...different suppliers...streamlining the production etc etc

Why don't you contact Smit salvage - use a cutting saw to chop it in half (Tricolor salvage) take tank out and repair then cut 'n shut the 2 halves together with some gaffer tape
I could add a few feet in length…

It seems the factory has been experimenting with how best to remove the tank and they will report back to the yard with their findings...it all seems unusual but I take it as good progress ??
I don’t think I am going to lose much of the season if any...once a plan is agreed it should be days not weeks to get it all back together
I guess that assumes that the tank is repairable?

What's the lead time for a new tank?

If it were me (I know its not), I would possibly be exploring getting the old tank cut into pieces so it could be removed without touching the boat, and getting a new custom tank made up that can be fitted without touching the boat, accepting the fact that the new tank may be a bit smaller than the old tank , but I guess that not necessarily a given

Obviously the tank will be assessed by the welder ....I don’t know about the lead time, since I was quoted a factory price for a direct replacement, they might have one in stock..

After much pressure from the forum to take it to the professionals, I think I should not interfere

Bouba, it's your boat, it's out of warrantee (sp?), you chose a firm to do the work for you.
TBPH, I don't expect any wisdom from the manufacturer.
Considering that patching or repairing an ali tank is not the smartest of moves, I'd instruct the boatyard, to cut the top off as much as needed to remove the thing without messing with floor and structure around the hull.
Then I'd ask for this thing to be used as a template to built a grp tank, add baffles and a lid and put it back in...
Good thing that my mild steel 45yo diesel tanks are fine, although being four (circa 300X500mm in plan), one next to another it is possible to remove them with the engines in place (I recon, hope I don't have to test the theory!)

I expect to visit them soon...I don’t think that they will proceed without me signing something...and I might bring up the subject?

Well well well
So now one knows
Without a shadow , I would get a written report /survey
Invite M Beneteau to visit
And ditto insurance in case of a claim
Then I would chop it out
This leaves the boat intact and it’s future resale /integrity unblemished
Then (!)
I would accept a 1/3 loss of fuel capacity and simply fit 2 identical wing tanks leaving the centre space for access, storage of oil cabs what have you
That is without doubt-and doing the job myself and then keeping the boat and living with it all- what I would do .

Well done patiently pursuing it to a point of discovery and finding a ‘can do’ yard ..?

I have found that in France, consumer law doesn’t protect as much as you would like…a gentler approach gets further

My experience is that you need to go through an advocate and if they don't concede it takes ages and ends up in court, however typical household insurance covers costs and most insurance companies give you access to an advocate to explore the options.

And in the meantime I do not have possession of my boat?
Right now I am relying on the goodwill of all parties....the yard and the factory are cooperating let’s not get ahead of ourselves
