On the top of my SS fuel tank there is a redundant outlet formerly for the diesel powered Taylor heater. It's rusty and comprises of a central threaded boss with a nut on to a large washer under which is a decrepit rubber seal. This is leaking, fortunately only when the tank is full!
How has this been installed? The tank doesn't have an access plate. I want to remove the fitting and plug the hole. What's available to seal a blind hole in the tank?

Cheers

Pete

An Essex flange [be careful with Google search:eek:] might be the answer, try a diesel specialist or good plumbers merchant [not B&Q]

A picture may help.

All the connections to my diesel tank are standard BSP sockets (internal threaded tube). To seal then fit a plug. These can have a hex nut looking top or an external or internal square top for tightening

Thanks for your replies.

An inspection panel is out of the question for now - it would mean removing the tank. from the boat!

The fitting was retrofitted - so some sort of Essex fitting. The dilemma is having the right replacement plug at hand before attempting to remove (and possibly destroying) the old one.

I'm in a lovely yard, but parts generally cannot be obtained locally. I'll check if Essex fittings are used in Greece!

Cheers
