Need to fill up for the first time and I am in Pwllheli. Are yachts in UK allowed red diesel, is this what the mariner sells and how much is it? Just to get an idea. Many thanks as always.:encouragement:
It is not VAT free, charged at 5%. The EU is worried about reduced duty used for the "domestic" part of the fuel and the fact that the fuel is "red" ie a marked fue not allowed by EU rules foruse for pleasure boat use.l.I thought the EU was taking the UK to court for yachts using red diesel VAT free? What a downer its full price.
Just pull up to the fuel berth, give the office a shout, sign the paper 60/40 and give them your plastic. They give you an invoice with the tax paid on it. keep that for of you go continental. Thats it. Or you can do like some peeps do and get some red farm diesel, same as the marina sells you exactly, but no tax on it for about 80-90p a ltr. Some peeps carry it out to the piles and fill their tank. Once its in, no one can tell the difference. Rural garages sell it.Need to fill up for the first time and I am in Pwllheli. Do I really care? And that is why the EU has got the hump!!!
They don't question 5/95 or 10/90 either unless you are a mobo. It is not up to the reseller to dictate to you the split however if he suspects you are up to something he can (should) report the details to HMRC. The reseller will have a contact number for such instances. If anyone here doubts this call your local HRMC office and get put through to whoever deals with derogated fuel. The reseller is only the reseller not HRMC nor the "authorities"So with a nudge and a wink the UK authorities have let it be known that they will not question a split of 60/40 for propulsion/heating. Most fuel berths will charge this by default and just expect you to sign a form agreeing it.
