Fuel On Windermere

Only waterside diesel available is at Sheperds, for about the cost of a small house per litre.
Other than that you can fill up by using jerry cans from the waterside garage waterhead just before Ambleside. Aquatics used to have pumps but not anymore, not sure if they are re - fitting them, niether do they I imagine. Other than that bring yer own in a jerry can every week and keep it topped up, thats what most of us seem to do.
PS
Were are you berthed ?
Ian

Thanks for that, we're at the marina Village, went up to ambleside yesterday, he stopped doing fuel in Oct (boat or Car) and Sheperds was closed too, in the end i bought a 20l can and filled up at the Petrol station, i think that'll be a real pain for some of the bigger boats tho.
It was the final nail in the coffin for us, we've been thinking of moving to the south coast this is another tick in that box along with the continued development at WMV, couldnt get the car with in 100m of the boat 'cos of the building work, god knows what it will be like when it gets a bit busier the parking was a pain before.

Oh well its probably the push we need

Your not on your own Adrian, seems like everyone is considering a move. With regards to fuel, Sheperds seem to have a delivery on saturday and run out on sunday at least this seems to be the case during summer season. Wasnt aware that the garage had stopped that is a suprise.

Hi Ian,

Have not been up for a while, but think the garage will have stopped because they were looking at planning permission to put apartments on the land, think they are leaving the small marina.

With Sheperds closing down on the Glebe will they still have fuel behind?

Hope to be up sometime this weekend

Wow,

Things are getting bad up there. We always had fuel in the good old days...

[/ QUOTE ] No. Some days there's just no wind.

Gave up on Windermere about 18 years ago. Funny thing is M farter used to be called sumthing like Exmere Lady, cant remember. But started life on there, as I did. Amazingly we both moved on and met up in Dartmouth. Keeping a boat on Windemere is a bit like keeping a tiger in a zoo, or maybe more importantly the keeper. Well thats how I found it anyway!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hi James
We thought you had emigrated or summat !!!!!!!!!!
Will be up next weekend 28/1/06 then were away in canaries for a week in 5star luxury. Hope to see you soon.
Ian

Hi Ian,

Was up at the weekend, Sheperds are still doing fuel and it appeared from the lake that the petrol station in Ambleside is still selling fuel but I might be wrong.

Have you seen the cost of mooring a 50ft+ ..... £10,750 + Vat

Bit of an increase from last year!! Just glad I sold my boat which I think would be 7.5k+vat.

James
Yep I heard about the 50' mooring cost Wow !! ours has not gone up from last year which I find equally Wow !!
We will be up this weekend.
See you soon - Ian

Hello,

Not sure at the moment, i have bought the S25 that Shepherds had outside their office. I had an S24 back in 2000 at the mariner, but gave it up for starting a family. I have missed it and looking forward to getting back up there. Also i have the issue with the Mariner building on the carpark, will there be enough parking still? They are installing a barrier system to limit 1 cars etc?
Am i doing the right thing, or has the lake or the mariner had its day? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Used to water ski but love mountain biking walking etc, still plenty to do.

Regards

Simon

Water ski ing is dead however our weekends do not only resolve around boating. We mountain bike, walk, shop, eat out and of course drink. Have you thought about berthing at aquatics ? I have heard about the parking problems at MV.
Ian

Yes i checked with Aquatics, same price as mariner village. Not as nice to berth at, not calm water. Also their car parking policy is first come first serve. They do not have enough parkign spaces for the number of berths

I don't think you will have a probelm with parking, I have had a boat there for 6 years and think only once not been able to park.

Have never had a problem with the water not being clam enough, pick a well sheltered berth and it is ok.

Good to hear that you think Aquatics is ok. I will give this another visit.
Do you know that Low Wood (i think??) the watersports centre near Ambleside is opening this year a new Mariner. Noticed this on the way up to Ambleside. May be worth a visit.
