Fuel line flexible

Afternoon all. Volvo Penta 2002. I need to replace the short bit of flexible fuel line located between the initial fuel filter (CAV???) and the little priming pump on the engine, a leak. Please can anyone tell me the type and size of fuel line to buy? I can't seem to find out the pipe internal diameter required. UK based. Thanks.

It’s likely to vary from boat to boat. Ours has a length of solid pipe between filter and pump. I would imagine regular 8mm fuel hose commonly used for outboards would do the job.

Yes, likely 8mm internal diameter. Go to a motor factor and buy rubber looking fuel hose rated for deisel

1. Remove existing line from lift pump;
   
   
2. Measure external diameter of connector on VP 2002 lift pump;
   
   
3. Purchase new fuel line with the measurement discovered in step 2 as the internal diameter.

Amazon, other online suppliers are available, can supply fuel lines in different lengths and diameters.

If I may piggy-back on this query? I am about to do the same job, and my query is mainly about hose type and end fittings.

The current flexible hose between the filter and the engine, and the fuel return from the engine, is cloth covered, and has probably been in place for very many years. It is simply push-fitted onto the copper piping, and onto the banjo fittings on the engine, and held in place by tiny Jubilee type clips. I had intended to replace the hose with modern flexible (synthetic rubber?) hose, but
(a) should the hose be armoured in any way, or is plain hose acceptable?
and
(b) is that method of fitting the hose to the pipes and banjo fittings acceptable?

I seem to recall the external diameter of the copper piping is about 7mm (perhaps 6mm internal diameter?), so I am guessing 7mm fuel hose would be the appropriate size, though i will check the external diameter of the pipework and banjo fittings.

Don't use armoured pipe, use proper fuel hose, marked as such.

Use fuel line clips, not jubilee types. This style, for example Amazon.co.uk

Fuel hose will be 6mm or 8mm.
