Hello forum,

I need replace a pair of fuel lines for the Volvo 2002 series diesel in my little old boat. The existing lines are 5/16" hose with "Banjo ??" connections on one end and 1/2" UNF male fittings on the other.

One line goes from CAV filter outlet to the engine fuel pump. The other goes from the injector overflow back to fuel tank.

All fittings on the existing fuel lines look like they are crimped on so not sure how best to handle this from diy perspective.

Is it ok to use jubilee clips to clamp the hose to fittings? If so I can buy the necesary bits and save myself some money by diy'ing a new set.

Otherwise any recommendations for a company in the Southampton area that can make up a new set for me would be welcome - thanks.

I went to my local supplier of hydraulic equipment, yellow pages? He re-crimped the old brass fittings onto new armoured hose, about 1/2 hour wait and £10 for a 4ft. hose.

If I've understood correctly, you can saw the crimps off and remove the old hose, effectively leaving a hose-barb fitting to which you can attach new hose with jubilee clips. They'll need to be checked at least annually, although any failure on the supply side will manifest itself as running problems due to ingress of air. Leaks on the return line will just make a mess. A hydraulics supplier can make up new pipes to your dimensions at an acceptable price when you have the time.

Get a junior hacksaw, carefully cut diagonally across rhe brass crimp and ease it off, pipe will then be able to be manouvered off. If not damaged (pipe) you can reuse the end bits other wise cut back to a good bit or buy from www.asap-supplies.com a bit of same sized fuel hose. Get your new end fittings from Asap as well, push in to the pipe and use 2 suitably sized hose clips to secure each end. If you do it properly, it will be as good as the old fittings.

You can get made up fuel hoses of various lengths with bango fittings to a variety of pipe diameters from ASAP.

This is a typical one.

It is one with 1/4 inch ends and just needs the necessary end fittings to fit it.

It is now surples to my requirements and I intend to put it on ebay some time.

PM me if you want it.

Cheers

I would not use "Worm screw" clips under 20mm I find that at smaller diameters they "pinch" around the overlap and can leak under high pressure, try "Unex" clips, much nicer IMHO.

In the Southampton area try Hyphose, I've dealt with them for years and can do any form for pipe you require, and also the fittings to match.
They are, from memory, near Dock gate 20 but on the other side of the road but check the site below for confirmation.

Many thanks to all for the advice given. I'll check out Hyphose tomorrow as its near to my place of work.

p.s is that you Rob ?? (Varne27mojo). If yes then we lost touch a while ago & i'd still like to return your rig tension gauge!

For my fuel injection motorbike, I used the hose clamps that you crimp up each side using a pair of pincers or similar. Got them from www.rswww.com. Are these OK under the boat safety scheme?
