Hi,

Can I please have some info on getting fuel in Newlin and best place to pick up a visitor berth in Falmouth and Plymouth?

Thanks in advance.

We find a berth in Penzance always popular with the family.

Last stop off for us on route to Brittany.

Fuel up

Raft up normally and then just a short walk to town for nice meal etc..

Council run and cheap.

Newlyn good also esp with the relatively new marina facilities, we just prefer the quieter Penzance.

Fuel is easy to come by in Plymouth - Plymouth Yacht Haven, QAB, Mayflower Marina all have fuel. These marinas all have plenty of room for visitors too. Sutton Harbour might also be a consideration for a stopover as it's very central to the Barbican, shops etc.

In Falmouth the Harbour Commissioners also run visitors moorings on a pontoon very well positioned for the town. There is a fuel pontoon here also.

Personally, I would fuel up at Falmouth rather than at Pz or Newlyn.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

Fuel in Penzance from the dock head during gate opening times, Newlyn is from tanker Kenny Downing or cans Mounts Bay Engineering. As said before Falmouth is easier.

We used Sutton Marina in Plymouth and loved the fact we could walk out into the heart of the action. They also had the cheapest fuel when we were there by some margin.

The harbour commissioners moorings are excellent, if you have the time I can't recommendat least one night on the mid river pontoons further up the river Fal just before the King Harry ferry.

Henry :)

Was a couple of years ago but fuel on Falmouth town quay was about 35p more a litre than Solent.I juiced up only enough to get to Plymouth and MDL discount...

Falmouth marina, (premier), is the only sensible fuel option, the town pontoon and Mylor will be far pricier.

Green V moorings or town pontoons are nice, Pendenis or Falmouth Marina are better and Mylor is lovely but not really in Falmouth.

St Mawes is a must if you want to hook onto a V Bouy, lovely harbour and harbour master and probably one of the best restaurants in Cornwall at the Tresanton.

Down the Truro river, as H says is just perfect for a quiet night, best to head down there early with plenty of provisions on a morning with a bit of wind, (the raggies will all head out at this point), and pick up a V Bouy off the Smugglers or better still alongside the pontoons on maggoty bank. (Beware that the pontoons south of the King Harry Ferry are not currently on commission). From here you can get you tender up to Truro or just enjoy watching he world go by, (what little of it there is).
Enjoy and will perhaps see you on the water...

Any idea what's happened with those pontoons? It's our favourite place in the Fal (or Truro river) to moor.

my wife and I practiced coming alongside that pontoon with Phil from Cornish cruising on our helmsman course in April .Beautiful spot I hope we are n't the reason they were decommissioned !! Saw Breaking bad a few time great boat !
