Fuel filter/water separator choice

Thanks for advice, it seems you’re happy about it. What make you think it’s better than orginal from Volvo?
The factory fited prefilter on ours wansn't Volvo.Penta branded (and doubt they ever made these anyway) but CAV, which was very messy to change and needed bleeding afterwards.

Just checked / changed Racir filter a few days ago. Unscrew lid with no tools, lift out filter, drop in new one, top up to brim with small bottle of diesel kept for purpose, screw on lid and start engine. So quick and easy. Also added glass bowl didn't have before.

I bought a clone from Ebay and took a good look at it. The quality seems OK but I wouldn't trust the filter so ordered some original 10u Racors.

The lid screw key had been overtightened and the small o ring was damaged as a result. I contacted the seller, told them I was happy to order an o ring and fit myself for which they gave me £4 refund. I then discovered Racor supply two o rings (lid and key) with their filters.

Fitted and tested today. No leaks whatsoever.

Racor 500 clone - £20.88 inc P&P

Racor 10u filters £11~12 depending on qty.

I was curious what the blanking plugs were for but the Racal installation manual revealed all. Side one next to intake for a heater, bottom one in bowl for water detector module.

Easy to miss on inspection but I was concerned to see how tight Beneteau had screwed the jubilee clips. I'm surprised it hadn't cut into the hose causing a leak. Hoses needed cutting back to accommodate new filter in any case.

I’ve done the same this spring though I took the full financial pain of an original Racor unit (I have a clone on the shelf in the garage which I will put up for sale when the enthusiasm is present). I fitted valves upstream and downstream of the filter to prevent fuel running out of the lines when changing the filter. Consequently I find there’s no necessity to bleed the system after filter change, just brim fill the unit with fuel, put the lid on, job done.
