Can anyone give me a guide to fuel consumption on the above engine. at around 4/5 knts
currently on Macwester 26 LOA 26' LWL21' Beam 9'2" Ballast 2200lbs.
Miles/minute, litres/hr, pints per yard!!!! anything would be helpful. Engine done around 400 hours I think

My 3GM27 on a Sadler 34 gave 1.4 litres per hour measured over 200 hours last season. Conditions anything from flat calm to some quite boisterous upwind days. Very little static battery charging. On that basis I would think you could expect an average of 1.0 to 1.4 litres per hour.

Between 1 1/2 and 2 litres an hour in normal use. Cruising 2600-2800 revs. Distance travelled will be a function of lots of other variables, mainly waterline length, weight, prop efficiency and conditions. Engine does not want to know about all that, simply burns fuel in direct relation to power being used.

My unit push 5000 kg Dehler 34 at 6.3 kn/hr (cruising speed)
average consumption is 2 lt/hr.

Your boat is 2200 kg, your unit should use less fuel than mine to keep similar speed

The above figures seem about right. You can extend the range dramatically by throttling back a knot or two, better still if you can get the main to draw.

As has been pointed out fuel consumption is a function of power generated. That is quite a powerful engine for a boat of that size so I would expect it to push her along quite briskly, in smooth water at least with a relatively modest throttle opening. You might therefore find that fuel consumption is less than 1L/hr depending on how the engine is being used, in what sorts of conditions and so on.

Fitted my 2GM20 in Cobra 27 bilge keel (very similar to Colvic 26) 16 years ago. Have kept an annual record of hours run and diesel used ever since. It comes out about 2-8 - 3.2 hours per gallon every year (mixed useage). A very good reliable engine.

I'm getting at least 3hours/gallon, and more with a gentle throttle and some mainsail. 2GM20 now 21yrs old!! I'm waiting for the £/euro exchange rate to improve b4 upgrading to the 3YM20.

I have a 2GM20 fitted to my Barbican 30(long keel) and have no fuel gauge but over 5 years, running at 4.5 knots I use approx 1lire per hour. I always allow for about 1.5/hr but have never used that much.
