Fuel consumption, what to buy

If you need the speed and economy with a mono hull you would need to look at probably sub 30 feet.

That might not help the OP so very much either, if his budget for fuel is very low.
As an example, my current boat, a Nord Star 28 patrol (which is for sale), cruises at about 25 knots, and uses about 1,8 liter/NM. Not a big fuel saving compared to the Fairline Targa 34 someone mentioned earlier.

That is not much more than half what my friend's BT 35 uses at a similar speed.

Half of a BT35? Ouch. Still more than double of what I use at displacement speed.

Best 35 will do on plane is about 3.3l/m at mid 20s. Interestingly it is less economical at low 20s. At 6 or 7 kn it will be less than 1l/m.

Same as my experience. Between about 8 and 22-23 knots, the fuel consumption goes way up.
At about 7,5 knots I get about 0,9 L/NM, dropping to 0,5 L/NM at 6,5 knots.
