Fuel blockage problem

Thanks all for the replies and advice. The fact that no one seems to have any real-world experience makes me a bit dubious of their efficiency. After all, if they were as good as had been demonstrated, everyone would be using them!

It's clear I need to get into the tanks to get them properly clean in the first instance and then probably sort some bigger primary filters with clear bowls. As an interim measure I have ordered clear replacement bowls for the Separs I have. The BSS compliant ones with metal heat deflectors were 4 times the price!

Cheers all!

in the good old days, every good fuel tank had a sump, with a drain cock. Any water or dirt would find its way into the sump, which could be checked and drained off periodically. Wonderful system. No power reqired, no moving parts, and works 24 / 7. What's not to like about it?

Or simply replace the metal bowls with the clear ones once the BSS inspection is finished !

Exactly my thought Trevor, and clear bowls are being collected today

Oh for those days. Drain point on your fuel tank sir? Oh no sir, we don't do those any more.....

I've also looked at these MLS thingies and have seen them demonstrated at shows.
They did look very impressive on show, and I must admit I did consider them because they just seem to use a centrifuge action to spin out the debris, and as such wouldn't block like filters do.
However when I discovered the price, several hundred ££ each, I thought it seemed extortionate for what they were and decided I couldn't justify them when other (more proven) means would address the problem at significantly lower cost.

Everyone has different circumstances so each to their own, but it is worth considering what else you could do with £800 to improve your fuel system's cleanliness and general wellbeing.
