I think our fridge has packed up. I haven’t yet definitively established what it is but it looks very similar to an Isotherm GE80. It dates from 2007/2008. Is replacement a DIY option or do I need to call an engineer in to deal with the refrigerant?

I don't know your specific fridge but if it can removed as one unit then, if it was in Australia (and, you, being worried about your privacy - we don't know) your local council would come and deal with it, at your home address. You would need to remove the door(s).

If you are lucky, actually it seems quite standard, you can by a new fridge that will fit into the old space with no need to make any new 'fridge', gas, connections at all. You might need to extend the 12v cable. Our new fridge came with dual voltage (it was standard, not an option) we never used the 250v AC.

We did exactly as you seem to be planning, removed an old fridge (older than yours :)) except ours had a remote compressor and replaced it with an identically sized unit (with built in compressor). I did modify - I added better computer fans to duct away the warm air produced by the compressor and ducted that air into the engine bay.

We installed the new fridge on a swing mooring - a word of warning - yacht fridges don't seem very big - until you put them in a dinghy with you and the skipper and have to discharge the new fridge and 2 persons from the dinghy. Possible but...amusing in retrospect.

But I am collecting similar stories - like our old 50m of chain.

You need to think laterally :)
