Does anyone know the French for 'is the berth starboard side-to or port side-to?'? I can't find anything which is clearly different from 'Is the berth on the starboard or port side?', which of course means something else entirely. thanks

ok, thanks - but I wondered if there was a direct translation?

That should get you the berth that you want. :)
Probably "un aperatif" too!

"Bonjour Monsieur the Commander of the port. Due to European Union, my lack of eel HOVERCRAFT this momemt. So I maintenent a monohull voudais I find a place in your port impeccable. But, I have a small problem. Can you give me a room for my port or starboard side? I am born not a particular preference, but it's easier if you tell me before I arrive!

Sausages? :)

Pete

Not quite. That would be saucisses, or saucissons. Boudin is more 'pudding' as in black pudding, white pudding and other fiendish French variations*. Also, slang for fenders. Might also be slang for something else, but if so Madame has never informed me.

*I like 'boudins creoles' - spicy black pudden.

There is an old Legion Etrange' marching song which starts;
:D
Wow, heres some pudding....but there's no more for the Belgians.

This is a family forum, so I leave the meaning, context within a all male, highly isolated, military sub culture, and rest of the words to you.:D
'A Bientot
