Carentan - cheap, very safe, has lifting out and dry storage, on Mainline, near Cherbourg Ferries
Caen itself, - very safe, not so secure security aspect, on Mainline, near Caen Ferries.
I have seen people over winter in Basin d'Est in Honfleur but do not know any details
In that case, I would take a closer look at Dieppe. Very reasonable rates & their winter season is 8 months.
Maybe it doesn't qualify as a "Channel port", but we're moving Yanita to Ostend next April; Mercator Marina have a very reasonable winter rate (for Yanita - 38ft - it would be around £500). There's a Ramsgate-Ostend ferry service.

Dear Brian
Thanks for the recommendation of Carentan. Managed to have a peek in a pilot book in a chandlers today - looks nice. Then met a delivery skipper who said why not go to Laos (Portugal). Now totally confused. Waiting for answers from both. But as MDL are quoting £3,000,
in the UK, we need to find an alternative.
At £500 for the winter - why are you waiting til April?
At the moment Yanita's in a shipyard - final stages of "Mid Life Upgrade". Expect to be back in the water by X-Mas. After that still unsure - possibly Mercator Marina till April, then Montgomery for the summer.
There's a website with their rates -> www.mercatormarina.be
Not in English, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work it out.
