Completely agree! We've sailed to France regularly for over 35 years now and, whilst many of the loveliest places are now blighted (in our view!) by marinas, it's still a superb destination.
We also have many friends there, and would have to struggle to recall a single occasion where the ordinary chap in the street has been anything other than friendly and extremely helpful.
I feel there is a grudging admiration of the way the French deal with their bureaucracy/prices when they don't agree with them, but perhaps that's something we should copy rather than denigrate.
